DONEGAL SFC PREVIEW: Naomh Muire have endured a difficult league campaign to date, but they can make history on Sunday if they defeat Malin.
Eamon O’Boyle’s side defeated Glenfin in May, and a victory on Sunday would create history in The Banks.
The Lower Rosses side have never reached the knockout of stages of the Donegal SFC, and last year’s win over Killybegs was their first ever Senior championship win.
They produced a superb performance to get the better of Glenfin in May, and will be looking to record back-to-back championship wins.
So a win on Sunday, which would almost certainly guarantee them a place in the last eight, and a place in the Naomh Muire history books.
O’Boyle’s side have a fight on their hands to stay in Division Two, but a big win over Four Masters has given them hope, and was the perfect result before the resumption of the Donegal SFC.
Four goals from Patrick Gillespie sealed a vital win for Naomh Muire, but Malin have plenty of championship pedigree and will be confident they can get a result in The Banks.
Malin have caused some massive shocks in the Donegal SFC in the past, with the famous eight-point win over St Eunan’s in 2013 a massive highlight.
They defeated Mac Cumhaills at Connolly Park, and will know a win would almost guarantee them a place in the last eight. Malin have Glenfin at home in round three of the championship so defeat for the Inishowen men wouldn’t be a disastrous result due to having 2 points already on the board.
It should be an intriguing clash, and it will be very, very close.
However, with home advantage and Donegal U21 star Jack O’Brien back from the USA, Naomh Muire have the slight edge over their opponents.
Verdict: NAOMH MUIRE
