Alice Diver is a 21-year-old from Killea, whose comedy sketches have become huge hits on Facebook.
Her most successful video “What you think you sound like and what you ACTUALLY sound like coming in after a night out…” has had over 1.1 million views!
Alice’s parodies of everyday Irish life have been popular on social media since 2014 with her Facebook page now having over 44,000 likes and she has a huge following across all platforms.
This is Alice’s Donegal…
(1) What is your favourite place in Donegal and why?
Ballymastocker Bay. It’s just breathtaking at the top of Knockalla looking down. World class scenery right on our doorstep. It’s everything good about Donegal: The hills, the beach, the countryside, the blue skies (on a good day!).
(2) If you could change one thing about Donegal what would it be?
Donegal needs better cancer care services. It’s a shame, in this day and age, that really sick cancer patients still have to travel such long distances for treatment. We should have these services available in Donegal.
We’re in one of the biggest counties in Ireland and have one of the highest cancer rates – but our people still have to go to Galway or Dublin for lifesaving treatment.
(3) Who is the one person in Donegal that you look up to and why?
I love people who never give up on what they believe in or what they want to achieve. Sinead Jennings is the perfect example. What a woman, what an athlete, what an inspiration.
(4) Daniel O’Donnell or Packie Bonner?
Without a shadow of a doubt, DOD!
(5) What has been Donegal’s proudest moment in recent years?
Winning the All-Ireland in 2012. Gave us some amazing days – and nights out. Impossible to beat that.
(6) What was Donegal’s saddest moment?
There’s been an awful increase in suicides in Donegal, especially among young people. We need to do more for people who feel they’re going through hard times. It’s okay not to be okay – but Donegal definitely needs an improvement in services and support.
(7) What is your favourite Donegal-made product?
Donegal Creameries Milk!
(8) Who is Donegal’s greatest ambassador around the world and why?
DOD again! I’m not a country music fan, but he’s put Donegal on the map. No matter where in the world he is, he always mentions Donegal. Thousands of people all over the world know about Donegal and have come here because of Daniel.
(9) Who is Donegal’s most successful businessperson in your opinion?
Brigde Diver – aka Mammy! – from B-bobs Hair Salon. Everyone says it’s hard to work for your mammy. After working with her for 7 years, I can say that’s definitely true, haha. She’s been the best hairdresser in town and has run such a successful business for over 20 years. On top of that, she’s raised thousands for Donegal charities.
And she raised me – which was a full-time job in itself!
(10) Who is your favourite Donegal sportsperson of all time?
Denise McElhinney. The best ‘keeper in Donegal. No matter what the sport she has the safest hands in Donegal. Along with the best vocal chords.
(11) What is your favourite Donegal restaurant?
Matt’s in my hometown of Killea. Their chicken boxes should be a Donegal speciality by now!
(12) Donegal’s golden eagles or basking sharks?
Are there actually sharks in Donegal?
(13) What is your favourite Donegal saying or expression?
Keep ‘er lit!
(14) What is the biggest challenge facing the people of Donegal today?
Tough call this…either trying to park without having your car going on the Parked Like A Kn*b page or trying to find bloody Pokeballs!
(15) What is your favourite Donegal food?
It’s hard to beat a Four Lanterns after a night out!
(16) Is there anything that really annoys you about Donegal or its people?
The lack of 3G…Snaps failing, Facebook not loading, Tweets saving to drafts…A daily struggle.
(17) Do you have a favourite local band?
The Inch Ramblers. The best about for playing Irish music and always guaranteed to have the place bouncing.
(18) What inspired you to begin filming comedy sketches?
Growing up I loved trying to make people laugh and was always playing around with the video camera, making silly recordings. I used to post small videos onto my private Facebook page for family and friends and it just took off from there. My inspiration just comes from everyday Irish life.
(19) What has been the most rewarding, and the most challenging part of making sketches?
The most rewarding is making people laugh and the reaction from people all over the world. Getting good comments like that really pushes me on – especially from children.
The most challenging is coming up with new material and keeping it fresh.
(20) Is there anything about Donegal that you are very proud of?
Our accent. Sure don’t we always win the sexiest accent title!
