Ladies Junior B Championship Final
Our ladies play Glenswilly in Milford this Sunday morning at 11a.m. in the Ladies Junior B Championship Final. Fair play to our ladies and their management John and Hughie for getting this far, let’s hope all their commitment and hard work pays off on the day. Ádh mór cailíní ó gach duine san Chlub!
Seniors win in Buncrana
Our seniors picked up two valuable points in Buncrana yesterday evening. Fanad got off to a whirlwind start with Michael Sweeney hitting the net from the throw in after nice approach play with Seimi ‘Coshia’ Friel. This gave Fanad a platform to build from and their tenacious defending snuffed out numerous Buncrana attacks.
Buncrana are a dangerous outfit, the likes of Odhran Doherty, Oisin Doherty and Garbhan Friel have the ability to destroy teams but Fanad’s patience and hard work was something that the lads can be very proud of. Brian McVeigh covered every blade of grass on the field and Oisin Shiels was very influencial over the course of the game.
Ryan McGonigle was also unstoppable, hitting two points and was very unlucky not to hit a late goal after a great save by Sean Parker. Half time score was Fanad 1-4 – 0-1 Buncrana.
Buncrana did hit a purple patch possession wise but again Fanad held strong. The experience of Cathal Martin and Shaun McElwaine proving crucial. Fanad closed out the game with points off the boot of Ryan McGonigle, Oisin Shiels and the impressive Seami ‘Nanny’ Friel.
A great win and with Urris and Naomh Ultan also winning it makes the finale to the season even more exciting. Fanad’s approach of playing 5 forwards in the Buncrana half for the entire game with Seami Nanny in a third midfielder role worked well and a similar approach will be needed when we face our nearest rivals Milford this weekend in championship.
Milford are on the crest of a wave after achieving promotion to division 1, a remarkable achievement. However championship is a different animal and it should be a tight affair on Saturday evening.
Tria Loch is the place to be this Saturday evening with the Reserves up first, followed by Seniors. Come out and give our boys the support they deserve!
