There has been uproar on social media following English presenter Alice Beer’s distasteful joke about the Great Irish Famine during an episode of ITV’s ‘This Morning’.

In a segment which discussed how a fridge should be properly stocked, Beer disagreed with ‘This Morning’ host Eamonn Holmes, on how potatoes should be stored.

‘I’m from Ireland, you don’t put potatoes in the fridge!’, said the Belfast native Eamonn.

Alice mocked Eamonn’s Belfast twang and then replied; ‘you want to preserve the life of your potatoes, you Irish should know that – there was a bit of a shortage once’.

Eamonn’s disdain was made clear by his reaction:

Beer apologised for her comment on Twitter, saying; “I apologise for the insensitivity of my comment which of course was never intended to offend. It was stupid”.
