Voynich is the solo project of Irish film composer and musician Cian Furlong.
The music video was shot on location in Donegal, Ireland and features actor Eoin Leahy. Locations used were Fanad Lighthouse, Meentycat wind farm, Tramore beach, Barnesmore Gap and St Johnston.
Exoself is the second single he has released and takes it name from an obscure technological term used to “describe a wide range of systems linked to the self in a cooperative way, extending the mind and the body.”
This ties in with the concept of the music video which features a man travelling through various visually striking locations only for it to be revealed at the end that it is in fact a virtual reality simulation.
This is intended as a parable on the concerns that advances in technology may have the downside in the near future of encouraging more people not to leave their homes and remain in their “digital bubble” even more. The video asks the question ‘Why travel to a location when you could have a V.R. simulation of it without having to leave the house?’
This is the tenth music video directed by Gerard Lough. Lough and Furlong both recently completed work on the feature film Night People which was released last year in cinemas to critical acclaim and is now available on video on demand.
