GAA: The All-Ireland dream is over for another year for Donegal Senior Ladies after they suffered a narrow defeat to Dublin at Pearse Park, Longford.
Donegal led by two points at half-time, with Yvonne McMonagle’s goal the crucial score in the half.
Karen Guthrie was in fine form from placed balls, and Donegal were looking good at the interval.
However, Dublin are a superb side and they upped the intensity in the second-half and gradually began to peg Donegal back.
Dublin levelled the game with fifteen minutes to go, and from the restart stole possession and made Donegal pay as Sinead Aherne found back of the net with a clinical finish.
Dublin extended that led to four points, but Donegal roared back into contest through a goal from Geraldine McLaughlin.
McLaughlin only returned from the USA last week, and she scored a stunning goal to breath hope back into Donegal’s challenge.
There was just a point in it with five minutes to play, unfortunately though Donegal couldn’t level the game and Dublin added two late points to ensure their passage to the All-Ireland semi-final.
A great performance from Donegal, and they can be proud of their efforts all season which included promotion to Division One of the league.
