Through a fundraising weekend on 3 rd and 4 th September, we are planning to raise much needed funds to start refurbishing the Donegal Town Hospice patient wards and family rooms which are situated in the Donegal Town Hospital.
At present, the hospital use two single wards as a hospice, with a small connecting room for visitors to use.
Julie Voss, one of the organisers said; “Our vision is to create a home from home environment which offers comfort and pleasant surroundings for the patients and their family and friends.”
They have organised a walk based on the post-war poem “Warning” by Jenny Joseph, in which the narrator describes how when she is an old woman, she will wear purple and red.
On Saturday 3rd September, in the Diamond from 12pm to 4pm, a bring and buy jewellery/handbag sale, thought cards will be available to purchase, registration for Sunday walks will take place.
On Sunday the 4th the walk inspired by Jenny Joseph will take place. The walk is in memory of Eamonn Murphy. They will create a thought tree and enjoy refreshments at Donegal Town Hospital.
The organisers are also appealing for people and businesses to donate items to make their vision a reality. They are appealing from re-decorating equipment, appliances, soft-furnishings, entertainment (books/television sets), non-perishable grocery items, and toiletries.
All donations are appreciated greatly, and everyone is welcome to come along for what will be a fantastic weekend.
