The senior football team had five points to spare over Fanad Gaels at a wet and windy Pairc na nGael on Sunday. Two goals scored in each half secured the win. The reserve lads came up short in their match. This weekend the lads are away to Burt. See Club Facebook for throw in times.
Last Wednesday evening in Pairc Taobhoige our U-16 footballers continued their winning ways when they defeated Glenfin. This was a great team performance from all the lads. Well done all. The club would like to extend best wishes to Keelan Margey who suffered a shoulder injury during a hurling match last week. Get well soon Keelan. The roller coaster season continued for our U-16 footballers as they made the journey to Inishowen to take on old foes Naomh Padraig Uisce Chaoin on Sunday evening.
In difficult conditions the home team had the upper hand throughout the game and despite the Gaels best efforts the Muff men held out for a victory.
Last week was a busy one for the Letterkenny Gaels underage football teams. Despite the poor weather conditions, the under 8s and 10s football teams were both out last Wednesday participating in Go Games against neighbouring clubs.
The Letterkenny Gaels under 8s travelled to MacCumhaill Park to play against a strong squad of young footballers from the Sean MacCumhaills GAA club. Both clubs fielded a number of teams with a good mix of boys and girls participating. On a cold wet evening, the travelling Gaels were very grateful of the hospitality received in Ballybofey with tea and coffee served to the parents and treats provided to the players. Thank you to management at Sean MacCumhaills.
Back at Pairc na nGael, the under 10s were entertaining a very well trained group of footballers from the Termon GAA club. Both clubs fielded two very strong teams that produced some top quality football watched by a large crowd at the Glebe. Again the girls were well represented on both club teams and scored a lot of the points on the day.
Training resumes after the summer break on Sunday 14th August from 11am – 12noon for u6s, u8s and u10s age groups. Gaels Camogs travelled to Croke Park on Monday 8th August to take part in Caman to Croker, an annual camogie day with over 60 clubs and 1500 girls participating. Arriving at the Cusack Stand the team went through the changing rooms and warm up area with Camogie Association chief Mary O’Connor and Development Officer Clare Dowdall. There was an official photo, now on the Camogie facebook, before the girls waited for their matches in the stand. The opposition was Naomh Treasa, Dungannon, Bride Rovers, Cork and Causeway from Kerry. All matches were closely fought with Causeway the outstanding team in the group. The girls also got the opportunity of a one off photo in the pitch. It was a great spectacle in the sunshine with three pitches playing at the same time and lots of colour and noise. Gaels had much appreciated support on the day from parents who travelled along. The day finished with a stop off for food on the way home and lots of singing on the bus. This was a wonderful day for our girls, getting to play with your team mates on Croke Park in club colours. A huge thank you to all the girls for their effort and enthusiasm, to parents for support, to Annie and coaches and to Ellen for great photos. Camogie Training continues at Pairc na nGael every Monday from 6pm-7.30pm for U12s, 14s, 16s & 18s and Friday evenings from 6-7.00pm for U8s, 10s, 12s & 14s.
