U12 Parish League
The competition has definitely taken a twist this evening leaving only 6 points between first place and 2nd & 3rd are tied. Excellent skills and determination was shown by all the players this evening. The fire in Cian Sweeney & Patrick Gallagher belly has left our parish league well and truely up in the air. Caolan Gibbons had a really strong game finishing everytime with a lovely swift ball right over the bar.
Meabh Duffy was excellent in midfield with unreal power and strength. Roisin Carr had some super passes up the field to her team mates and did a excellent job defending against the solid and skillful Caitlin Heraghty.
Caitlin had a great game and fought hard for her ball everytime. Ronan Mc Fadden even with a injury soldiered on and kept the scorline to a minimum. Hugh Rodgers was exceptionally strong this evening and had a big influence on the game. Orla Mc Ateer had some hard tackles but stood strong and came out the other side ending with a perfect point. Aoife Gibbons & Shaun Mc Devitt worked very well in the backline excellent communication and speed on the ball was shown by them both. Ciaran Sweeney excelled in speed & precision on the ball.
He shows sheer determination every minute he is on the field. Michael Gibbons fought hard and had a a big influenece on the scoreline. Jessica Coll has a fab ability to read the game and will not give up until possesion is hers. The mighty skill shown by Conor Heraghty and ability to restructure his team is a trait not often shown by one so young. Darren Mc Ateer has one hand on that cup and it is not going to be taken away from him easily.
Every ball that comes his way is guaranteed to go over the bar. Cian Friel is one step ahead of the game and rounds up the team nicely. Not much is passing Shaun Carr in midfield once that ball is in his hands it is not getting away unless he comes up against Meabh Duffy who shows no mercy and never backs down.
Callum Mc Ateer’s accuracy and technique enabled his team finish with a great scoreline. Emma Hunter came into the game like a whirlwind she definitely has shaken things up with her excellent skill and strength on the field. Grainne Sweeney has a natural ability to interpret the game. Grainne has a great ability to keep the back line safe from harm and intercepts the ball with key precision everytime.
Coaches Tracey Mc Bride & Paddy Heraghty, assisted by Sean Sweeney.
The battle continues next Thursday evening.
U16 boys
Our U16’s travelled to St. Michaels last Friday and came away with a superb victory. Missing our full forward line of Eoghan Mc Grenaghan and Mark McAteer through injury, the lads didn’t let that stop them racking up 4-9
against the Dunfanaghy men.
Indeed places are going be hard to come by as the players are all pushing hard for a starting berth in the next match. The Fanad goals came from Matthew Gallagher, Eoghan Shiels, Brandon McClafferty and Shaun Kerr. James Howe, James Sweeney and Michael Sweeney dealt with any firepower St. Michaels had.
Darren McElwaine and Johnny Gallagher had a huge impact on the game at halfback. Bernard McGettigan and Fergus Friel were always in control in midfield. Our busy half forward line of John Friel, Odhran Duffy and Kieran Coyle were on fire all evening while Shaun Kerr played the sweeper role perfectly.
Our new full forward line of Mathew Gallagher and Eoghan Shiels had a mean look about it as well. Subs on the night contributed well when they all came on shortly after half time Shaun Sweeney, Kieran Mc Devitt and Liam Sweeney. Man of the Match was Brandon McClafferty who is a shining example of what hard work on the training field can achieve.
The lads now find themselves second in the table and must fancy themselves for a shot at some of the bigger teams in the county in the latter stages of the league.
