SHOWJUMPING: There was delight for Donegal showjumper Gavin Harley from Rathdonnell, Letterkenny when he claimed a European Gold medal in Millstreet, Co.Cork.
This was a historic win for team Team Ireland as it was the first time that they ever won a team gold in the Under 21 European Championships.
He rode the 12 year old stallion Understone van de Kapel in the competition.
Team consisted of Gavin Harley, Michael Duffy, Matt Garigan and Max O’Reilly Hyland.
They completed the two rounds of the nations cup on a total of 5 pelenties ahead of the Netherlands on 10 and Switzerland on 13.
Gavin was the anchor man for team Ireland and jumped the winning clear round to seal victory for the home nation.
Gavin who is based with the Van Paescchen family in Brussels, Belgium for the past two and a half years also finished 5th individually for the championships which was jumped over gruelling 5 rounds at a height of 1.50-1.55 metres.
