The 49th annual Mary from Dungloe final was broadcast on Irish TV this evening, where it was revealed that this year’s winner is Eva Ni Dhoibhlinn, the Gaeltacht Mary.
Eva is twenty years old and is currently studying for a degree in Primary School Teaching at St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra, Dublin.
An avid musician, she has been making music since she was only six years old. She is part of a traditional Irish band called An Crann Óg.
Eva is a big ambassador of the Irish language and seeks to promote our native tongue nationally and internationally.
Marys representing New York, Glasgow, Belfast, London, Philadelphia, Dungloe, Dublin, Edinburgh, Wild Atlantic Way, Donegal, Sligo and Derry, all competed to win the coveted crown and title as Mary from Dungloe.
The hashtag #MFD2016 has been trending on Twitter nationally this evening.
Congratulations Eva, and well done to all of the fantastic Marys this year.
