CHARITY: Malin GAA club have helped raise €1,500 for Meningitis Research and another €1,500 for the Jack and Jill Foundation.
Meningitis Research Foundation have expressed their sincere thanks to Malin GAA for choosing Meningitis Research Foundation as one of their beneficiary charities from the Malin GAA Annual Sports Day.
The fundraiser was a great success with races and family fun day raising €1500 for Meningitis Research Foundation so a huge thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of this event and all of the supporters on the day.
There are on average 200 cases of bacterial meningitis and septicaemia- the blood poisoning form of the disease in Ireland every year. Sadly one in ten of those people who contract the disease will die and one in three survivors will be left with life changing after effects as severe as amputations, brain damage or deafness. MenB is responsible for approximately half of all the cases every year.
Money raised from this event will help to fund research into the prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia and raise awareness of the diseases amongst both the general public and health professionals in a greater Donegal area. It will also contribute to our freefone helpline service that operates 365 days a year and other support services available for local people affected by meningitis.
As a Non-Government funded organisation, Meningitis Research Foundation relies on the generosity of local communities and fundraising events and donations to continue its vital work so the Charity is extremely grateful to GAA Malin for organising this event.
