GloHealth All Ireland Juvenile Track & Field Championships 2016:
We had one of the largest ever number of athletes qualifying for the All Ireland finals this year in Tullamore. The highlight of the track and field season didn’t disappoint with some outstanding performances from our athletes. This is great to see and Club Chairperson, Aidan Gillespie would like to thank all the coaches who have committed their time to train with these athletes, in the past months – Sinead Diver, Leanne Sharkey, Elise Gillespie, Helen McCready, Michael McElroy, Deirdre Sharkey, Tom Marry, Danielle McDyer and Tony Croke.
Pride of place goes to our top performer Gweedore’s Fodhla McFadden. Fodhla win a super Gold All Ireland Medal and a well deserved National title at the Glo Health All Ireland Finals in Tullamore on Sunday. Fodhla leaping out to a massive 10.96m to win the national title, making it a proud day for the club and the community.
Emma Brown ran in the 100m and the 200m heats, finishing a very respectable 6th in the 100 in a time of 13.47sec and 4th in the 200m in a time of 28sec but unfortunately just missed out qualifying for the finals. Still valuable experience gained in what was her first All Ireland.
Emily Croke had a great 4th place finish in the final of the shot, narrowly missing out on the medals but proving she can hold her own with the best of in the country.
Leah McGarvey from Gweedore was in top form in her event, the u14 long jump and got out to a new pb of 4.72m and a 6th place finish. A great performance from her.
Annagry girl Amber Gallagher did everyone proud finishing 6th in the u12 shot, a great performance for her 1st time at the All Ireland’s.
Tomas Marry earned himself two magnificent top 10 finishes in the shot and discus and improves with every competition.
