Donegal’s famous All-Ireland win of 2012 is to be turned into a movie.
The extraordinary story of how a written-off Donegal team turned their fortunes around to claim the Sam Maguire cup is one of the greatest in recent sporting history.
The movie is understood to centre around former manager Jim McGuinness’ award winning memoir, Until Victory Always.
Oscar-nominated filmmaker Kirstein Sheridan is working on the script and the film will eventually be produced by Irish film company Fastnet Films.
Included in the story is a detailed account of how McGuinness took over the wounded team in 2010, only to win three Ulster Championships and the 2012 All-Ireland final by the time he stepped down four years later.
The victory was just Donegal’s second All-Ireland in 20 years after Brian McEniff led the team to their first win in 1992.
McGuinness has, of course, gone on to work at Celtic FC and also contributes to the Irish Times and Sky Sport.
Who exactly will play McGuinness and also captain Michael Murphy has yet to be made known.
