COURTS: A man who can’t recall how he was involved in an accident, and who admitted to have been drink driving has been disqualified from driving.
Micheal Daly, 22, with an address at Main Street, Lifford appeared at Letterkenny District Court yesterday morning in relation to a drink driving offence he was charged with.
Gardaí observed a car that appeared to have extensive damage done to it, on closer inspection they realised it’s front bumper was hanging off, and had extensive damage to its wheels.
The suspicions of drink-driving, and the defendant was breath-tested at the scene, and recorded a reading of 75.
He had been involved in an accident, but had no idea how it happened, and in fact admitted that he couldn’t remember how the accident occurred.
The court heard that Mr Daly was employed in the family business, and was a father to a 16-month old child.
He accepts full responsible for his actions as one would hope, he had went out for the evening with friends, it was late and he couldn’t get a taxi, and decided to drive.
He realises it was dangerous and irresponsible and accepts his actions were totally unacceptable and is very sorry for what he had done.
Judge Paul Kelly fined the defendant €300 with three months to pay, and disqualified him for a period of three years.
