Schoolgirl gets €17,500 for crash on way to new school

The Judge approved the settlementA Donegal schoolgirl has been awarded €17,500 in damages after being the passenger in a car which was involved in a crash.

The girl, who was 12 at the time of the crash, was traveling to visit a secondary school in Carndonagh which was planning to attend, when the crash happened.

The girl was playing on her iPod at the time of the crash and suffered bruising and constant nausea as a result of the incident.

Barrister Fiona Crawford told the court that the girl still suffered anxiety as a result of the crash and sleep disturbances but was otherwise okay.

Judge John O’Hagan approved the settlement at Letterkenny Circuit Court today.

The court allowed €1,000 form the settlement to be given to the girl’s mother off a school trip later this year.

Judge O’Hagan ordered the remainder of the money be lodged with the Four Courts until such time as the girl was 18.
