Last Saturday saw the staging of Keith Lapsley’s President’s Prize. As is often the case in Dunfanaghy, conditions may have looked benign for those inside looking out, however it was a different story for the competitors who had to combat strong swirling winds throughout the day.
While many players struggled, there was one man who emerged head and shoulders above anyone else. That was Danny Sweeney who had a fantastic score of 43 points and won by a very impressive four shots. According to his playing partners and, like Henrik Stenson last weekend, every shot went exactly where he wanted it to go, a phenomenon which is foreign to most of us!
In second place was Nigel Doherty with 39 points. Nigel has come close in some of the majors recently and must be one of the favourites for the Captain’s Prize.
In third place is another man who is no stranger to the winners’ circle, Neil McGinley with 38 points. Ger Dalton was fourth with 37 points and Tim Ryan finished in fifth place. The gross prize was won by Shane Greer. The past Presidents prize was won by James Brogan. James has been a stranger to our fairways over the last few months and it was great to see him back again on top form.
President Keith said he would like to thank not only those who took part in the competition on Saturday but also the many well wishers for their cards and generous gifts. In the President’s scramble on Friday the 15 th , the winners were Sean Duffy, Billy Griffin and James T Sweeney with a great score of 44 points for 14 holes. In the Lady and Mr President’s
Mixed, the President and his good lady wife Gillian were pipped by Bill and Paula McCallion who had a terrific score of 60 poins. Junior Golf There was no junior golf last week but it will be business as usual again this week. Please note also that the President’s Prize for juniors will take place on Wednesday the 6th August with the Captain’s Prize on the 13th August.

Function room for private parties
We have hosted a number of private functions in the clubhouse recently and these have proved to be a great success. If you, or someone you know, is organising a private function please be aware that the clubhouse is available free of charge, with exclusive use for the occasion. So far, the feedback that we have been getting is that the golf club is the ideal venue for parties of up to one hundred people. Please make contact with Sarah if you are interested in holding a function at the clubhouse (074 91 36335)
