This is the sad scene as the remains of a young Bottle-Nose Dolphin was found in the River Swilly in Letterkenny today.

Yesterday we revealed how the calf and its mother had been spotted by local at the Port Bridge.

Local amateur photographer Jerome Keeney caught some lovely pictures of the pair at high tide.

However, for some reason the calf was found floating near the Port Bridge this afternoon.

This picture, taken by Donegal Daily reader Senan Burgess, shows the 1 metre long calf, floating near the bridge.

There have been no sighting of the adult dolphin.

It is suspected that the young dolphin died of natural causes.

While Bottle-Nose dolphins are common around the Donegal coastline, it is rare for them to come so far inland as far as the Port bridge at Letterkenny.
