A VETERAN Derry civil rights campaigner is to officially launch People Before Profit in Letterkenny next week.
Eamonn McCann, elected an MLA in the North two months ago, will speak at the launch next week at the Orchard Inn in Letterkenny.
People Before Profit Spokesperson Cyril Brennan thinks now is a good time to offer people a new choice to how politics is conducted.
He said: “This is a relatively new party but it is one which is growing as more and more people are becoming disillusioned with how politics is conducted in this Country.
“This Party is composed of ordinary people who are fed up with austerity and a Government that seems to think we are an endless source of revenue. They line their own pockets while the poorest and most vulnerable suffer.
“We need a real change in this Country, we need honourable people to represent us and we are delighted Eamon Mc Cann; recently elected to Stormont for Derry, is coming to speak at the meeting.”
Charlie Mc Dyer who ran for People Before Profit in the Stranorlar Electoral Area in 2014 but failed to win a seat said: “The fact that PBP won two seats in the recent Northern Ireland Elections shows a real hunger among voters for a new breed of politician.
“It also shows that PBP is truly an All-Ireland Party, with no division between North and South. We are against austerity which is severely damaging communities, we want to change politics and end cronyism and corruption. People see this and more are starting to vote left.
“We really do need an alternative to ‘politics as usual’. Consider our own General Election outcome – despite all the promises nothing has changed politically. People are sick of seeing this and hence why more are taking an interest in People Before Profit – because we do exactly what we say on the tin.”
The meeting wil take place in the Orchard Inn, High Road, Letterkenny 19th July at 8pm
