RAPHOE NOTES:
Raphoe Family Resource Centre:
5k Thanks
Around 170 runners and walkers took part in our annual fundraising event kindly sponsored by Coyle’s Centra, Raphoe and we would like to thank Mr Edward Coyle for his continuing funding support. The weather was kind to us on what was a good evening for running and walking. 24 athletics, running and sports clubs were represented including Raphoe’s very own Raphoe Road Runners and Raphoe Hockey Club, our near neighbours Convoy AC, Castlefinn Running Club, Lifford Strabane AC, Aghyaran and Drumoghill Running Club as well as a host of individuals and we would like to thank each and every one for your support.
As you can imagine an event like this can only be organised with loads of goodwill and helping hands so the Family Resource Centre would like to thank our army of helping hands- Doris Magee, Lorraine Gallagher, Joann Darragh, Bernadette Coyle, Marie Porter, Diane Gibson, Shannon Gibson, Jackie Gallagher, Janet Kilpatrick, Jacqui Kilpatrick, Betty McClintock and Teresa Coyle for providing the delicious refreshments; our race stewards-Emma Mc Colgan, Olive Strain, Dave Wheatley, Dympna Wheatley, Rihanna Wheatley, Patricia Doherty, Patsy O’Hagan, Teresa Walters, Joe Martin, Liam Gallagher, Brian Gallagher, Jackie Gallagher, Aidan Kelly, Aidan Laird, Damien Curran, Racheal O’Donnell, Sinead McDaid, Jacqui Kilpatrick, Keragh O Donnell, Michael Devenney, Shannon Gibson and Diane Gibson; the local Gardaí for traffic management; Christy O’Donnell of Donegal Co. Council for providing traffic cones; Martin Laird of Raphoe Tidy Towns for use of barriers and litter bags; to our hard working Committee and staff-Jackie, Diane, Patricia, Michael, Aidan, Betty, Melanie, Laura, Marie, Racheal, Sinead, Jacqui, Aidan, Damien, Patricia and Keragh.
We have to sincerely thank two people who make a massive contribution to the success and safety of our 5k each year. One is Brendan O’Donnell of Lifford Strabane AC who looks after all the ‘technical’ stuff before, during and after the race……from marking the course, registration, chip timing, putting the results together and posting them online and on social media, and the second person is Pat Carlin who looks after any first aid needs. Pat can be seen in his ambulance following the runners and walkers around the course. Pat won’t stop the engine until such time as everyone is safely back. Thanks Brendan and Pat……you are two gents!
The presentation and refreshments after our 5k took place in Raphoe Boxing Club and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Peter O’Donnell and Gary McCullagh for all their support and cooperation. For those of you who have never been to the Boxing Club it’s well worth a visit…..it’s a mini museum to boxing.
The 5k was preceded by a 1k race for children under 12 years of age. We were very pleased with the turnout for this race as it was our first time to host it. This race was also kindly sponsored by Coyle’s Centra, Raphoe. The first boy home was Eamon Coyle and the first girl home was Grainne Coyle. Well done to all the boys and girls who took part! We hope to host this race on an annual basis as well so we look forward to seeing an even bigger entry next year.
