FINN Harps took maximum points at home to Galway United in a cagey affair tonight, Harps now have 3 wins from 3 as well as keeping 3 clean sheets along the way.
A dull first half at Finn Park, were neither team could control the game or create any clear cut chances. On 34 minutes Scully got a half chance but failed to hit the target, as did Galway United’s striker Padraig Cunnigham 3 minutes later again failing to hit the target.
It took until the 60th minute for the first shot to hit the target. The ball broke to Dave Scully who hit it on the half-volley but was easily gathered by Galway’s Conor Winn.
The game opened up in the second half as both teams created some decent opportunites.
Finn Harps broke the deadlock following build up play from McNamee and Scully, they worked the ball to Josh Mailey who then crossed with Sean Houston placing the ball into the corner of the net. 70 mins – Finn Harps 1-0 Galway Utd
Almost immediately after Harps taking the lead, the ball was laid back to Colm Horgan on the edge of Harps 18 yard box who struck well only to be denied by the base of Brush’s post.
Galway pushed on for the elusive equiliser but the Finn Harps rearguard stood strong as it has on many occasions this year. A fantastic win for Finn Harps which see’s them leapfrog Sligo Rovers and Bohemians with 23 points. Harps are now 7th due to goal difference, level on points with St.Pats & Galway United.
Next up for the Ollie’s men is a tricky away tie to Bray on Saturday the 16th of July.
