Tickets are selling fast for a gala premier concert dedicated to the legacy of one of Ireland’s best known playwrights, Brian Friel.
Acclaimed traditional composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Manus Lunny presents the specially commissioned concert which features an array of renowned traditional musicians including Mairead Ní Mhaonaigh, Micheal Mc Goldrick, Donald Shaw, Theresa Kavanagh, Fraser Fifield and Ewen Vernal, with string and orchestral arrangement by classical collaborator Vincent Kennedy and musicians of the Donegal Music Education Partnership.
Presented by the Earagail Arts Festival in association with the Regional Cultural Centre, “Home to Ballybeg – A Tribute To Brian Friel by Manus Lunny ” is one of the highlights of this year’s Festival.
The not-to-be-missed concert brings to a close the Donegal Folk & Roots weekend and is described as a musical journey drawing on the landscape and characters, the inspiration and the issues that so passionately influenced Friel’s writing.
Each of the performed works are deeply rooted in Irish Traditional music, born in the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht.
Performed in a contemporary vein reflecting the vibrant and progressive nature of the living tradition using internationally renowned artists from the world of Irish, Celtic and classical music, this celebratory concert will transport the audience into the world of one of the greatest Irish playwrights.
