A planned walk is set to give members of the Co Donegal public a chance to see one of the country’s rarest birds.
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), in consultation with National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) are seeking to introduce farmland bird prescriptions within the GLAS scheme for Grey Partridge at Burt and Inch in North East Donegal.
The Grey Partridge is a locally extinct farmland bird of traditional importance within the Irish countryside.
However, Inch Island Gun club in association with their parent organisation the NARGC and the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Heritage Council have begun a reintroduction program for Grey Partridge on Inch island.
The Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM), in consultation with NPWS are holding a farm walk on Wednesday next, 6th of July at 6pm at Strahack Farm, Inch Island.
The walk will provide an opportunity for department officials to answer questions and provide information on best practice for existing and future GLAS participants in the delivery of Grey Partridge measures and farmland bird prescriptions.
Information will be provided on Grey Partridge, as to why they are included as a Tier 1 priority within GLAS and a demonstration plot for farmers who wish to join the GLAS scheme will be available for them to see what they must do to comply with the scheme specification in order to draw down GLAS and GLAS Plus payments.
Farmers that are currently participating in GLAS are also invited to attend. At the end of the Farm Walk, there will be an opportunity for general Q&A on the GLAS scheme.
The Farm walk will take place on Bryce’s Farm, Strhahack, Inch Island, starting time is 6pm sharp.
DAFM would like to thank the Bryce’s for making their lands available for the GLAS Farm Walk and would remind all attending to wear suitable clothing and footwear.
