POLITICS: Fine Gael TD Joe McHugh has said his ambition is to build a strong economy and a fair society – so that communities across Donegal can thrive.
McHugh was speaking after it was announced that farmers in Donegal will receive €1.8 million in BPS payments.
Fine Gael Minister of State Joe McHugh warmly welcomed the news that farmers in Donegal are to get almost €1.8M, in final instalments of BPS payments, which begin this week.
Minister McHugh said, “The Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed, has confirmed that, following the recent definitive allocation of entitlements by his Department, the final instalment of payments under the 2015 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and Greening for farmers begin this week.
“Farmers in County Donegal are to get a total of €1,742,171.89
“The rollout brings the total amount paid under the Basic Payment Scheme to €1.2 billion and over 126,000 farmers across Ireland have received payment to date.
“Taken together with payments under the Areas of Natural Constraints Scheme, this represents a total of over €1.4 billion in direct payments to farmers since last September.
“This is a very significant financial boost for farmers in County Donegal. It’s also very good news for the rural economy in Donegal and will have a knock-on effect on many local businesses.
“Investing in our rural economies and supporting communities across rural Ireland is a top priority for this Government.
“Fine Gael’s ambition, and my ambition as a Fine Gael TD, is to build a strong economy and deliver a fair society, so that communities across Donegal can thrive.”
