RESIDENTS BELIEVE BOGUS IRISH WATER WORKER BEHIND BURGLARIES

burglaryA bogus Irish Water worker is using a false ID to scope out houses to burgle across Donegal.

It follows an overnight burglary in Drumkeen in which a range of gardening equipment was stolen.

The house on the Convoy Road was targeted between 2.30am and 7am while the occupants were in the house.

Thieves broke a lock on a garage and got away with a hedge trimmer, a new strimmer and two leaf blowers while a lawn mower was found on the street.

Gardai have been informed of the burglary and are carrying out an investigation.

Locals believe a silver saloon car spotted in the area at 1.30am may be connected to the theft.

A local resident confirmed they have contacted Irish Water after a man operating in the area claimed he was from the company.

However, Irish Water denied that any of their employees was working in the area.

The local resident said “We think these could be connected. This person has called to a lot of houses and we feel they could have been scoping out houses for potential robberies.

“We are asking people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Gardai in Ballybofey.”
