RTE pundit Pat Spillane has joked that Mark Anthony McGinley’s deserves 7.5 out of 10 for his dive during Saturday’s Ulster SFC semi-final clash with Monaghan.
McGinley has come in for sharp criticism since the incident, after he theatrically threw himself to the ground holding his face after minimal contact with a Monaghan player.
James Horan called the incident embarrassing on Sky Sports, and said that when McGinley looks back on the incident he will cringe.
On The Sunday Game last night, Pat Spillane said he’d give McGinley a 7.5 out of 10for the dive.
He made reference to the comments made by Fermanagh manager Pete McGrath who said Donegal were guilty of ‘cynicism’ in their clash against the Erne County in the Ulster SFC quarter-final.
Spillane said, “McGinley took a theatrical dive, and I’d give him a 7.5 out of 10 for the dive, it was very impressive.
“On a more serious note, it’s poor from him, and he will be disappointed with it when he looks back on it.
“Pete McGrath made reference to this last week, regarding cynicism in Donegal’s play, and I suppose that’s an example of it.
“But in general, the game was played in good spirits and it was a hard hitting and absorbing clash between two very good teams.”
There has been plenty of comment on social media outlets on Facebook and Twitter regarding the incident.
