On Saturday, St. Mary’s U14 boys were the champions at the Ulster Provincial Feile competition that took place in Dungiven Co. Derry. St. Mary’s started the day really strongly with a 4-6 to 1-0 victory against Moneygall Co. Antrim. Next up was Naomh Padraig Muff and the Inishowen team was dominant with a well-deserved 6 point win. So St. Mary’s qualified as group runners-up to meet another Donegal side Glenswilly in the semi final. Playing some excellent football the team qualified for the final with a 2-4 to 1-0 victory. The final opposition was once again Naomh Padraig Muff.
Despite playing some decent football, St. Mary’s went to the half-time break 4 pts down. However, they stormed into the 2nd half showing excellent character and performances scoring 4-2 to emerge as 9 point winners and champions.
This was a great day for this panel of players and their excellent coaches Ryan Kettle and Anthony Browne. Not just for the victory but for the character and friendships that are developing with this young group. They did the club and their families proud.
Thanks also to McBride Bros. Joinery who sponsored the team for this event and Gavin Harris who provided fruit to ensure the team was well fuelled for the long day.
