Cheques of €17,255 were handed to two local Donegal charities last night as the proceeds of the North-West 10K were officially presented.
This year’s chosen charities, the Irish Pilgrimage Trust and Spina Bifida Ireland (both Donegal branches) were overwhelmed at receiving the donations.
A total of €34, 510 was raised from the event which saw more than 2,000 competitors, both walkers and runners, complete the 10K course in Letterkenny.
The event, sponsored by both Donegal Daily and Brian McCormick Sports, has now raised almost €750,000 for various charities as it marked its 20th anniversary this year.
Chairman of the 10k, James Boyle, thanked his fellow committee and all those who gave of their free time to make the event such a huge success again this year.
He added that the committee faced many new challenges as the event passes its 20th anniversary and this includes exploring new ways for themselves and future charities to fundraise to coincide with the hosting of the 10k.
Speakers from both charities addressed the gathering at the Mount Errigal Hotel and said they were honoured and humbled by receiving such a generous donation to their respective charities.
Present on the night was President of the Letterkenny Chamber, John Bowe, as well as President of the North West 10K, Charlie Kelly.
