SCENES for TV hit ‘Games of Thrones’ could be filmed in Donegal next year, Donegal Daily has learned.
Directors from the series – most of which is filmed in the North – have visited a number of locations in the county including sea stacks off the west coast, Glenveagh National Park and parts of Inishowen.
The Game of Thrones filming franchise selected the North as one of its three main filming locations for, among other reasons, the beauty of the locations.
They set up home in Belfast and almost five years later, Titanic Studios now stand where the previously derelict area where the Titanic was built.
With a little set dressing and tweaking, some of the most majestic locations in Northern Ireland become part and parcel of Westeros.
Locations in the North include the marble arch caves in Fermanagh, a former quarry in Magheramourne, the Cushenden Caves and Ballintoy Harbour.
Downhill Beach in Co Derry has been another location.
Tourists flock from all over the world to take a 4-day trip around the locations.
Now Donegal could be added to the list.
We understand location managers have been impressed with what they have seen so far in the search for new back-drops for the hit TV franchise.
Easy access to the county is said to be one of the pulling factors for HBO who make the medieval fantasy.
