ARE YOU A MAVERICK? The Beach body! As we’re are about to enter the height of summer holidays to Spain, Portugal, France and the rest; an increasingly popular question that we are getting asked in an awkward round about way is “the chest, too shave or not to shave”?
We being boys from the hills of Donegal normally keep our well chiselled chest and abs in the wraps of a coat, two hoodies , a shirt and 2 inches of chest hair, and the only person to get to admire it is ourselves!
At the end of the day we invested a lot of snack boxes, Guinness, mars bars and sitting around into getting it to look just so damn good, so we need to protect it and put it under wraps!
But we now enter the time of year when we decide, feck it I’m going to show it to the world……
I could write a book about various ways of trimming down, what to use, etc but here are the top tips:
- If you’ve got quiet the carpet on your chest it is advisable to at least put some manners on it but unless you are at least bench pressing your own body weight then maybe you should consider how you would look if you stripped it all off.
- Trimming it down with your set of home clippers in stages is the best.
- Starting with longest first and slowly working your way done to a length that you think looks good.
- If you are going to shave or wax. Don’t do anything without exfoliating for about 5 days before hand.
- This is ESSENTIAL. By exfoliating you will remove dead skin cells etc. This will substantially reduce any swelling, redness, spots or in-growing hairs. This is the main place where guys get it wrong!
- Waxing will result in a better, smoother finish. It will also last longer. HOWEVER, the phrase “no pain, no gain” has never been more relevant in your journey of life as a man, as it is to the exercise of waxing your chest!
- If you decide to shave, you will still get a good result, however it will not last as long and the re growth will be somewhat more itchy than after a wax.
- It is more than fine to rock a hairy chest however in this day and age of manscaping a hairy back is a bit of a no-no. So our advice is do what you have to do to get that lawn cut.
- When?
- If you’re just trimming you can do it any time prior to the holiday.
- If you’re shaving do it 2-3 days before jetting off.
- If waxing you would need to do it app 5 days before the holiday to ensure the redness and any swelling has gone down. Imagine getting sunburn on top of it??? It just wouldn’t be worth it…
Gents if you need any more information get yourselves down to Mavericks on Lower Main Street, Letterkenny where we have loads happening.
