DD FITNESS: BURN FAT FAST AT HOME
You don’t need expensive gym membership to burn fat and get fit and healthy, says fitness guru of the moment Joe Wicks.
From unknown personal trainer to internet sensation, the 30-year-old Londoner is shaking up the fitness world after coming to prominence through social media.
At just 30 years old, the author of bestselling Lean in 15, is currently on a UK and Ireland promotional tour for his new book, Lean in 15- The Shape Plan which is published later this month.
His philosophy is simple and ideal for those who are time poor.
Wicks advocates doing four to five high intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions per week lasting no more than 25 minutes each.
He says: “With a small space and a few simple bits of kit, you can turn your home into your very own fat burning HIIT zone for a full body workout.
The great thing about HIIT is that you don’t need a gym or even any equipment. All you really need is some motivation, a workout space, and a timer. You can smash a HIIT session with a mix of bodyweight exercises such as burpees, mountain climbers, high knees, skipping or sprints. All you need to do is choose an exercise or a combo of exercises that are good for you and work hard for 20 minutes.”
In his high-intensity interval workout for beginners, he says doing 30 seconds of hard work followed by 30 seconds of rest. If you need more rest – take it.
He advises doing a circuit of exercises four times, not forgetting a warm-up and cool down.
* Warm-up
Jogging on the spot for 20 secs to raise your heart rate.
Bend at the hips and touch your right hand to your left foot, twisting to do both sides in turn.
10 low squats
The circuit includes:
*High knees jog on the spot
*Burpees
*Power squats
*Mountain climbers
