John Hegarty Memorial Art Competition 2016
The winners of this year’s annual art competition in memory of the late John Hegarty, Art Tutor, hosted by Family Resource Centre and Raphoe Art Group in association with Raphoe Central and St. Eunan’s National Schools were: 1st Prize-Abbie Mc Knight, 6th Class Raphoe Central National School; 2nd Prize-Jamie Lee Simpson, 6th Class Raphoe Central National School; Joint 3rd Prize-Caitlin Gallagher, 5th Class St. Eunan’s National School and Jack Kerr, 6th Class Raphoe Central National School. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank both schools for their continuing support for this art competition, and to all the young people for their outstanding art work. The judges had a difficult task in selecting the winners such was the high quality of submissions. Well done to all!
Family Resource Centre 15 Year Celebrations
The Family Resource Centre would like to invite the local community to its 15th anniversary celebrations which will take place from 12-4pm on Monday 27th June 2016 outside The Volt House. From 12-2pm there will be children/family activities such as bouncy castles, disco music, face painting, balloon sculpting, magic tricks, Scallywags Puppet Theatre, Lucky Dip and more. From 2-4pm there will be a community tea dance with refreshments. It is also hoped that there will be a car boot sale on the day. Let’s hope for good weather! Anyone interested in setting up a table for the car boot sale should contact the Family Resource Centre on 074-9145796 or 087-3641503. We would like to thank Donegal Local Development Company through SICAP for its funding support to enable these activities to take place. The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) is co funded by the Irish Government and the European Union under the European Social Fund and includes a special allocation under the Youth Employment Initiative
Raphoe 5k/Community Fun Run
The Family Resource Centre is delighted to announce that Coyle’s Centra Raphoe will again sponsor the Raphoe Annual 5k road race hosted by the Family Resource Centre in association with Lifford/Strabane A.C. This is the third year in succession that Coyle’s Centra has sponsored the race and we really appreciate their generous support once again. The race will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 5th July. Raphoe 5k is one of the races in Donegal Athletics Board Grand Prix Programme. As the Family Resource Centre is celebrating 15th years in the Family and Community Resource Centre Programme we are inviting walkers to take part with families most welcome. Entry fees: Adults-€8 (chip timing); Families (2 adults +2 or more children)-€20. There will also be a Kid’s 1k race commencing at 7.00pm and the entry fee is €3. Prizes and refreshments will be available. Go on….get on those running/walking shoes!
Afterschool Programme
The Family Resource Centre’s Afterschool Programme has now finished for this term and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the young people who attended each week since last September. Our best wishes go to all our 6th Class young people who will be transferring to Secondary School and we hope that you will enjoy school life as a “wee first year!” We look forward to seeing all before then though during the summer programme commencing on Monday 18th July.
Drop-in Tuesdays
Drop-in Tuesdays continue in the Family Resource Centre in the Volt House on Tuesdays from 10.30-11.30am. The Drop-in provides the opportunity for members of the community to call in for a cup of tea and a chat. Local and daily papers will be available so you can catch up on local, national and international news. The Drop-in is free so why not come along and join us?
50-50 Bonus Ball
The winner of our weekly 50 / 50 Bonus ball was Joan Mc Daid and the winning number was 34.

Seniors Alert Scheme
The objective of the Seniors Alert Scheme is to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities through the provision of personal monitored alarms to enable older persons of limited means to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.
Funding is available under the scheme towards the purchase of equipment by a registered organisation i.e. personal alarm and/or pendant. The associated monitoring and service charges must be paid by the participant.
A person will be eligible if he or she is:
• Aged 65 years or older; and
• Of limited means or resources; and
• Living alone, living with another person who meets the eligibility criteria; and
• Resides within geographical area of the relevant registered organisation; and
• Able to benefit from the equipment supplied; and
• Are prepared to maintain contact with the registered organisation.
Raphoe Family Resource Centre has now taken over the administration of the Scheme. Raphoe Friday Club
The Friday Club meets every Friday morning in the Volt House Hall from 10.30am-12.30. We would like more in our community to come along and be a part of the Group. There will be events organised over the summer so come along and join in the craic! Refreshments are also provided. We appreciate the funding we have received from Donegal Co Council which will enable us to offer more events. We Thank Cllr. Frank Mc Brearty and Cllr. Gerry Crawford for their work on our behalf to enable us to have this help. So come along and join in the fun.
