BABY STEPS WITH ÁINE: Hi everyone. As father’s day is nearly upon us, I’ll be sharing some simple ideas to help make it a special one.
I’m sure a lot of you mums will agree that far too often we take fathers for granted; we’re too quick to huff or point out something they haven’t done or something you’ve done “wrong.”
In the hectic world of parenting, we often forget to slow down to recognise and acknowledge all the things dads do right and well.
Being a dad is no easy task. As a new mum, I now have a better understanding and appreciation of fathers. They do so much for us from the minute we are born and most of it, we’ll never even know.
So, father’s day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate and thank dads for everything they have done.
I’m sure you’ll agree when I say dads are probably the hardest people to buy gifts for. But don’t worry, showing your love and appreciation doesn’t always have to come in the form of a gift.
Here are some simple thing I’m sure dads will appreciate.
Breakfast in Bed
When you think of breakfast in bed, Mother’s day is a natural association. But what about dad, doesn’t he deserve it too? I don’t think there are many dad’s out there that would say no to this one. It doesn’t have to be perfect. They’ll be so surprised they’ll probably be happy with a cup of tea and bacon butty. If you’re feeling a bit more generous why not go for a fry or something sweet. With the Sunday papers and some peace and quiet, it will go down a treat.
Quality time
Time is one of the most precious things that can be given. It is the quality of that time rather than the quantity that will matter the most. We often find it difficult nowadays to give people our full attention. We are too easily side tracked by the world of social media rather than enjoying the moment. We’re all guilty of it. Father’s day only happens once a year so abandon your phone for a few hours. Take this day to focus on spending time together as a family. Celebrate your dad. Go for a walk, have a picnic, share stories and just have a laugh. If you’re away from your dad this father’s day, why not plan a day another day for some quality time. A quick phone call or meaningful text will also brighten up his day.
A day off
When asking Will what he’d like for father’s day, he did not hesitate in telling me he’d love a day off. I’m sure this is the answer most dads will give….if they’re brave enough. Although it’s always a great idea to have that quality time I spoke about , you can also show them you care by allowing some time for him to relax on his own. Maybe all he’d like is to snooze, go for a cycle or enjoy some tv. Let’s be honest though, it will more than likely involve some beer and the Euros. They’ll appreciate the short break. They deserve it after all.
Tell him you love him
This is probably one of the simplest but most important ways of showing your appreciation. As a child I remember telling my dad I loved him every night. As we get older, we fail to use these words as often. We should be proud to love our fathers. When said with sincerity, these three words are the most powerful words in existence. So if you love him, tell him.
For all you fathers who are reading this, you guys are great and we’d be lost without you!
Have a lovely Father’s Day!
Thanks for reading,
Áine x
