Donegal newest star Eoin McHugh has said that Sunday’s Ulster SFC clash with Fermanagh was a huge step-up from the National Football League.
McHugh made his Ulster Championship debut on Sunday, and he produced an excellent display.
McHugh scored two fine points and produced a classy and mature performance in the red-hot cauldron of Mac Cumhaill Park.
It was a fiery clash which saw Neil McGee dismissed at the end of the first-half.
Fermanagh were up for the challenge, and had they converted the penalty they were awarded at the end of the first-half, they would’ve led at half-time.
However, as it transpired, Donegal controlled the second-half and eased to a comfortable win with McHugh in excelling in his role at wing-half forward.
McHugh told The Irish News, “It was just a nice atmosphere to play in and to make your debut.
“It’s a new type of intensity. There was savage intensity. It’s a serious step up from the league. It’s completely different.
“The crowd, my whole head was busting with the crowd. I’d never experienced the likes of that before.
“I watched a lot of these boys winning Ulsters and All-Irelands and now the likes of Michael Murphy and Frank McGlynn are passing the ball to me in these games.”
