Daniel O’Donnell has said that he is “delighted” his pal Cliff Richard has been cleared of sex abuse allegations.
The Donegal singer has come out in support of his pal on numerous occasions since the allegations surfaced two years ago.
Daniel and wife Majella are very close to the legendary singer and have often holidayed with him abroad.
Daniel said he now wishes 75 year old Cliff well in the future as he leaves the allegations behind him.
Daniel wrote on his Facebook page “Absolutely delighted to hear the news this morning that our good friend Cliff Richards ordeal is over. I, along with all of his friends and fans wish him all the best for the future.”
More than 2,300 liked Daniel’s comment on Facebook.
Daniel’s wife Majella also came out on her Twitter account in support of pal Cliff.
She wrote “So happy to hear that #cliffrichard will face no charges after a two year investigation! I always believed in him,” Majella said as news of the decision broke.
“About time 2! He was treated appallingly.”
The Crown Prosecution Service in England reviewed the case and decided there was “insufficient evidence to prosecute”.
Cliff said he has always maintained his innocence.
“After almost two years under police investigation, I learnt today that they have finally closed their enquiries.
“I have always maintained my innocence, co-operated fully with the investigation, and cannot understand why it has taken so long to get to this point.
“Nevertheless, I am obviously thrilled that the vile accusations and the resulting investigation have finally been brought to a close”.
The Crown Prosecution Service had investigated claims of sexual offences made by four men between 1958 and 1983.
