A well-known American woman, living in Letterkenny, has pleaded with the council to open a book of condolences for the Orlando shooting victims.

Ms Sheila Clancy-O’Donnell has said she will even buy the book herself and post it to the relevant authorities in the US.

“I will buy the book myself and mail the book to Orlando’s City Hall personally, although I would hope one of the town councillors or politicians has already gotten this wheel in motion.

“Being an American living in Ireland, and as Letterkenny is twinned with a US city, this would be a massive gesture from our pocket of the world.

“It also proves to our children that kindness will prevail,” she said.

The businesswoman, who lives in Tullygay on the outskirts of the Cathedral Town, also suggested the town hold a vigil of the 49 victims killed in the massacre.
