The euphoria of Donegal’s excellent Ulster SFC win over Fermanagh this afternoon has been dampened significantly by the confirmation Neil McGee will be hit with a two-game suspension.
McGee was sent off after appearing to strike out at Ruairí Corrigan deep in first-half stoppage time.
The incident left Corrigan with a bloodied nose and it was hard to argue with the video evidence from the incident.
McGee had possession of the ball, and as he turned with it, Corrigan went to close him down and that’s when McGee caught the Fermanagh forward.
Maurice Deegan gave McGee a straight red card and Donegal were forced to play the remainder of the game with 14 men.
The loss of McGee is a huge blow for Donegal ahead of their Ulster SFC semi-final showdown with Monaghan.
McGee would’ve picked up star forward Conor McManus, but that responsibility will now probably go to his brother Eamon.
McGee will miss the Ulster Final if Donegal overcome Monaghan, as he was given retrospective punishment following an incident in a fiery league clash with Kerry in the NFL in March.
