POLITICS: It has been confirmed that the road between Annagry and Loch an Lúir will be finished this year after years of campaigning, lobbying and organizing by the local community.
The confirmation has been welcomed by Donegal County Councillor Michael Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig.
However, Mac Giolla Easbuig have called on the council to reverse their decision not to replace footpaths between the crossroads at Loch an Lúir and the local national school.
Mac Giolla Easbuig told Donegal Daily, “The road between Annagry and Loch an Lúir will be finished this year, after years of campaigning and organising by the local community -and this is great news.
“However at the Glenties MDC meeting in Dungloe, I expressed my concern that the low level kerbs that act as a footpath between the crossroads at Loch an Lúir and the school will not be replaced – and asked that they would be replaced, but unfortunately I didn’t get the support at this meeting that was needed.
“I have spoken to the council on a number of occasions requesting that not just the low-level kerbs should be replaced but we should be replacing them with proper footpath.
” I felt the very fact that this is not being done is a step backwards not forwards. Parents and children walk to and from the school most days using the footpath that is there.
“The students who come in their hundreds to learn Irish use these footpaths as well. I would call on the council to reverse their decision and to put a proper footpath in place in the interest of our community and our health and safety.
