TWO thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Co Donegal.
Forecasters say there is a risk of massive downpours over the county this afternoon – and there is an Orange Status alert for bank holiday Monday.
Irish Weather Online reports: “If a capping layer can break(area of warm air aloft), then conditions are favourable for some thunderstorms to break out in the midlands and northwest over the next few hours.
“Main thread will be surface flooding due to slow storm motion, CG lightning and possibly hail.
“Current satellite data suggest wind convergence setting up in the area which, if strong enough can help storms initiate and break through the cap.”
Met Eireann hasn’t issued official warnings for today – but the Orange Status alert for tomorrow is for heavy thundery rain for the afternoon and evening.
This could lead to treacherous driving conditions, said the forecaster.
Temperatures today hit 24C. It’s also very humid across the county.
