GAA NEWS: The Div 2 U14 Hurling Final took place in glorious sunshine in the Centre of Excellence in Convoy on Thursday evening between Setanta and Aodh Ruadh.
This was a full blooded contest from start to finish, Aodh Ruadh opened the scoring with a goal, Setanta responded with a point followed quickly by a goal. The game was nip and tuck throughout the first half Setanta got another goal followed by a couple of points, but great credit to Aodh Ruadh they fought back with a goal and a brace of points to leave the half time score 2.5 to 2.2 in favour of the lads from the Cross.
The large and very enthusiastic crowd were treated to a great second half where both teams enjoyed spells of dominance, Setanta got an early goal but again Aodh Ruadh fought back with a goal of their own and a couple of points. With less than five minutes to go and Aodh Ruadh two points down they hit with a great goal to go into a one point lead. Straight from the puc out Setanta got a goal to regain the lead. Aodh Ruadh were out on their feet but came back with a great point to leave only a point between the teams entering injury time. The drama was not over yet as a free in from Aodh Ruadh with the last puc of the game hit the post and went wide. The final whistle was greeted with great scenes of joy on the Setanta side and sorrow on the Aodh Ruadh side, all present agreed that this was one of the best underage games seen in Donegal in a long time. Both clubs should be very proud of their young teams who made this game such a great spectacle.
