ARE YOU A MAVERICK? Maverick’s Barbers is the best place in town – and in their latest instalment the Mavericks team are going hot and cold!
It’s not just your other half that can be hot or cold! When grooming, the temperature of the water you use can help to achieve even better results.
Ever taken a cold shower and noticed the difference in the way your skin feels vs. when you take a warm one?
What about after you shave does your face feel better after a splash of cold water? Or, have you ever hopped out of a warm shower and struggled to get your hairstyle just right?
Has anyone ever explained to you why you should use warm water to shave? Well warm water is one of the musts for a comfortable shave as it helps to get the closest most comfortable shave.
Therefore we decide to elaborate on when to use either hot or cold water to your advantage.
Cold Water.
GOOD FOR HAIR:
When you are finished shampooing and conditioning your hair, give it a final rinse with cold water. Why?
Well, it closes the cuticles that are on each and every hair follicle. Your hair will not only feel cleaner but
it will give off a great natural shine.
GOOD FOR SKIN:
This is good for your post‐shave and the final rinse in the shower, as well. Cold water calms and also tightens the skin.
Allowing for your skin to look shinier, feel cleaner and aids in optimizing the topical products (i.e. after shave balms and moisturizers) you put on after drying off.
Not to mention, if you were still trying to wake up, cold water can take care of that too!
Who said keeping cool and looking good couldn’t go hand in hand?
Warm Water
GOOD FOR HAIR:
Water breaks down the hydrogen bonds that keep hair firm, therefore making the hair follicles fragile or weak.
Hence, when trying to style in a particular way it will be more malleable and workable.
GOOD FOR SKIN:
A slight increase in water temperature acts to kill bacteria on the skin, helps create a better lather, causes the pores to open, and makes the skin softer and more pliable. This allows the hair to be cut easier and closer.
If the water is too warm, the skin can become sensitive to the touch, inviting irritation of the skin (ie. razor burn) after shaving.
Who knew shaving was a science?
In Mavericks we constantly use temperature to achieve better results… Hot towel shave, ice cold towels, hair dryer hi‐temp/low‐temp etc. And now you can too.
