Gavin Dykes’ return to Finn Harps FC has proved to be very brief – after club officials announced that he has left Finn Park.
Dykes was a former player and manager of Finn Harps, but enjoyed a tumelteous relationship with many of the club’s supporters and left the club under a cloud in 2001.
His appointment as assistant manager under Ollie Horgan raised a few eyebrows around Finn Park – but Harps have performed well so far this season and Horgan had praised the influence of Dykes.
However, Irish League outifit Ballinamallard United FC have acquired the service of Dykes, who will takeover as new first-team manager at the club – following the departure of Whitey Anderson.
Dykes was in the dugout on Sunday afternoon for Harps battling draw with Shamrock Rovers, but Ballinamallard pounced quickly and got their man.
It now leaves a void for Horgan to fill, William O’Connor is part of the coaching staff at Harps, but has no experience in any capacity at senior level, and it’s highly unlikely he’ll get promoted to the role as assistant manager.
James Gallagher was forced to leave the role due to work commitments and it’s unlikely he’ll return to the club.
Harps face Sligo Rovers in a North-West derby on Friday night.
