NEW Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has spoken of his love affair with the Glasgow giants.
And in a press conference this afternoon, Rodgers revealed how he first began following Celtic – when he was taken to watch the Hoops play Finn Harps in a friendly in Donegal.
“It was in 1984 and I was 11 at the time and it started from there,” said Rodgers.
“I was taken to a game against Finn Harps over in Ireland. I remember it well.
“I’ve had Celtic in my life for a long time and I understand the values and expectations here. This is one of the great clubs of the world so it’s a huge honour and privilege to come here.
“I’ve been a Celtic supporter all my life and we’ll do everything we can to meet the challenges set for us.”
Celtic beat Harps 3-0 in that friendly and today Rodgers cousins, uncles and other relatives were in Glasgow for his press conference.
He said his relatives “all over the world” follow Celtic.
And he says he has no regrets leaving English football behind.
“The Premier League is the most competitive in world football but Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he said.
