This was the 2nd year that this was done and with the support of Brendan Kelly from Kelly’s Toyota, they did it again this year.
Some months ago the captain of the Letterkenny 1sts, Terence Gallagher decided he would like to do a charity event at the end of the season. He contacted Denise Nolan, the fund raising executive from the Jack & Jill Foundation and asked could the Letterkenny Rugby Club partner with the Jack & Jill Foundation and she was delighted to agree.
Denise told Terence that their charity have currently seven families in Donegal under their wing at the moment and those families would be so appreciative of the club’s support. They provided TShirts, Baloons, Posters and everything needed for the event.
The day started off at Kelly’s Toyota Mountcharles where the lads were fuelled with a hearty breakfast by the team at Kelly’s which gave them the strength to start the push, firstly onto Donegal Town, where they were met & greeted by everyone who was out and about in the Diamond.
They pushed, stopping off for another refuel at Biddy’s O’Barnes, headed straight for Ballybofey & Stranorlar where they were welcomed & supported. Onto Letterkeny & when they got to the top of Lurgybrack, it was downhill and straight to the finish line, but that was not before they pushed the Toyota Yaris through Letterkenny Town.
Commenting on the push itself, Terence said: “We were absolutely delighted with the support that the public along the way gave us, they supported our charity event, they encouraged us and we are just delighted that we did it”. I would personally like to thank Brendan Kelly & his team at Kelly’s Toyota, Mountcharles and Letterkenny, without whom this event could not have been possible. Brendan has been just a fantastic support to the club for many years & nothing is a bother when events like this are put forward.”
“I would like to thank the lads who took part on the day along with myself, Chris Digimis, Shaun Mc Gill, Mark Quigley, Collie Farrell (Coach), Conor & Dermot Dunleavy, Caoimhín Mac Lochlainn, Keelan Kreel, Ronan O Donnell, Micheal Moran, Ciaran & Ciaran O Dowd, Martin & Ryan Mortimer, Sean Morris, Paul Madigan, Micheal Carr & Stephen Devine. They were all fantastic.
“I would like to thank McGettigan Coaches who drove our lads to Mountcharles and stayed with us until we got back to the clubhouse, giving us support along the way. I would like to thank Letterkenny Rugby Club for their support and to Denise Nolan, the fund raising executive from the Jack & Jill Foundation for partnering with our club for this event. I would also like to thank Grace Ann McGarvey, with her help in promoting the event & getting awareness for our charities.
“To know that seven families in our county will benefit somewhat from this event, makes it all worthwhile.” Thanks to everyone for your support. And I, would like to give a special thanks to our coach Collie Farrell from all the Letterkenny RFC players for an enjoyable year playing rugby. ” concludes Terence.
