A Donegal primary school which had its flag stolen over the weekend, are appealing for those responsible to return the flag immediately.
Staff and pupils at Castletown National School, which is located in St Johnston, worked tirelessly over the last twelve months to achieve their Active Flag status.
Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education and Skills initiative supported by Healthy Ireland.
The award recognises schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. It is open to primary and post primary, special schools and Youthreach centres in the Republic of Ireland to apply.
However, over the weekend the flag was stolen and it has left the Primary school pupils devastated.
Óisin Cannon who coaches GAA in the school told Donegal Daily, “One of the schools I’m currently coaching in Castletown National School, spent the year from September on working towards their green flag.
“They succeeded in getting the active flag award and proudly displayed it outside the school.
“Unfortunately over the weekend the green flag was stolen. It was cut of the pole. The kids are devastated.
“A lot of work goes into getting these things and to see it stolen it’s just not right.
“I’d appeal to those responsible to return the flag to the school immediately.”
