Daniel O’Donnell reckons Ireland needs a “good ballad” to win the Eurovision.
And the Kincasslagh star thinks the competition has changed since the country’s glory days.
He said: “I love the Eurovision and I want it to get better again but I just don’t think it’s the same kind of Eurovision that it was when Ireland were winning it with good songs.
“We need a good ballad. Nothing up tempo.”
Former Westlife star Nicky Byrne had the hopes of Ireland in his hands as he belted out Sunlight in the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, at the semi-final of the competition on Thursday night.
But he failed to make Saturday’s final.
Daniel told Galway Bay FM: “I think Nicky Byrne did a great job, he sang well and his performance was great.
“I don’t think him not being in the final was correct.”
