A LOCAL community has issued an appeal to find school roll books which are an integral part of their history but which have disappeared.
The Committee of Mullachdubh Community Centre – Seanscoil are hoping someone may have them and not realise their value to the area’s history.
“We believe when our School was closed in the early 70’s these Books were transferred to Annagry National School for Safe keeping. We have made enquiries and these books are no longer there,” said Donal O Searcaigh.
“We feel that to preserve our history an culture of our area and to give an insight of past pupils who had attended our School here in Mullachdubh we need to have these book on display in our local meeting area and that is in the Seanscoil.”
One story about the whereabouts of these Roll Books is that they were removed by someone doing a history project and never returned to the the keepers of the books.
Said Donal: “We now make an urgent plea for any information on the location of these books.
“Please ask questions on our behalf and hopefully we can locate our roll books and put them on display in the Seanscoil for our friends and families of past pupils to view
“One small story recently recounted was by a past pupil of our School. He was relocated from Belfast to stay with his cousins here in Donegal during the Second World War and attended our school or as he said himself his school and his love for Mullachdubh and Donegal has never stopped since.
“There are many more stories from past pupils of our school down through the decades and our school roll books are very important to make a connection to years and class mates and school friends of the past.”
