TOURISM bosses are celebrating after Donegal County Council stepped in to ensure a full Lough Swilly ferry service this summer.
The council has put forward a grant of €80,000 to Lough Swilly Ferry Service Limited – meaning the valuable route between Rathmullan and Buncrana will operate from next month until the end of August.
The service was limited last year and didn’t run at all in 2014.
However Dominic Sweeney from the Arranmore service is taking on the route this year and will operate up to 16 crossings per day.
Tourism operators on both sides of the Swilly are celebrating the news; the service brings valuable trade to Inishowen and Fanad.
