Finn Harps were full value for a 2-2 draw against North-West rivals Derry City at the Brandywell tonight.
Ollie’s Horgan’s went ahead but Derry drew level and then went ahead with just a couple of minute left on the clock.
But Harps just wouldn’t surrender and managed to snatch a point in injury time.
It was former Derry City star Ryan Curran who headed Harps in front after 20th minutes.
Derry pressed for the equaliser and Rory Patterson should have done better in a one-on-one with Ciaran Gallagher in the Harps next a few minutes after the opener.
It wasn’t until the 84th minute that Derry did manage to draw level when Josh Daniels scored from close range.
And with just two minutes left on the clock, Patterson made up for his earlier miss when he drilled home from the edge of the area to put Derry 2-1 ahead.
It was a cruel blow to Harps but they stuck to their task and when Sean Houston, another former Candystripes player, headed home in the 90th minute, Harps were in heaven.
A blood and guts performance from Harps and it’s points like these which will see the Ballybofey side battle to finish well clear of the relegation zone in their first season back in the Premiership.
