LIFESTYLE AND FASHION WITH MAIRÉAD: Hi folks, yes it’s that time of week again! Hope you’ve had another great week, I’ve had a lovely week off work trying to sort out all those things I’ve been putting off doing for weeks…..and still haven’t got through them!!!!
This week I’ve been chatting to Make-Up Artist Kathy Mc Elhinney, Kathy is owner of Elite Makeup and is based in Falcarragh.

Let’s face it we’re all aware of the high-end brands when it comes to makeup products and we are constantly been told how fantastic and transforming these products are, but they come with a not so pretty price tag.
Often we are paying extra just for the name when there are many lower-end products which are just as good for half the price, it’s just about knowing which ones to choose. I’ve asked Kathy to share her Top 10 Makeup Dupes with us.
1.Smashbox Photo Finish Primer (€36.00) V’s L’Oreal Infallible Mattifying Primer (€11.99)
L’Oreal is about a 3rd of the price of Smashbox, another great alternative is Makeup Academy’s Undress Your Skin Flawless Skin Primer which costs €6.45.
These three products basically have the same top 2 ingredients. Makeup primers are very overpriced, a lot of them have same ingredients as Lanacane Anti-Chafing Gel, mad I know… and yes I do use the Lanacane as a primer !!!
2.Mac Blacktrack Fluidliner (€21.00) V’s Inglot 77 Gel Liner (€15.00)
Personally I think the Inglot Gel Liner is miles better than the Mac alternative and I don’t think I’ll ever buy a different gel liner now.
3. Mac Make Up Brushes V’s Blank Canvas Make Up Brushes
Don’t get me wrong Mac brushes are fabulous but Blank Canvas as just as good…they are definitely, definitely a dupe!! After spending endless amounts of money on Mac brushes in the past I will never ever buy another Mac brush again, Blank Canvas all the way!
The Inglot eye-shadows are of just as good quality as Mac if not better, €10 for a Mac shadow it’s like 1.3g of product & €6 for Inglot shadows & its 2.3g of product, you’re getting far more for your money with Inglot.
5.Mac Kohl Power Eye Pencil (€18.00) V’s Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Liner ( €4.99)
Sometimes Mac’s Chromographic pencil can be too soft and you end up with chunks of it wedged between your eyelashes. MAC’s pencil isn’t waterproof either, so it doesn’t wear as long.
6.Essence Lip Liners (€1.30) V’s Mac Lip Liners (€17.00)
Essence Lip Liners are just as good and have great longevity lasting for hours on the lips even after eating & drinking.
7.Nars Orgasm Blush (€30.00) V’s Sleek Rose Gold Blush (€5.99)
Although the Sleek Rose Gold is slightly more pigmented than the Mac, there are certainly enough similarities between the Nars and the Sleek blushes for them to be seen as dupes.
8. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion (€21.00) V’s Essence I ❤️ stage Eyeshadow Base (€3.00)
With primers, and so many beauty products, price is no indicator of quality. The Essence Primer has just the same longevity as the Urban Decay Primer and will keep your eye shadow intact flawlessly throughout the day and crease free!
9.Benifit Brow Zings (€34.00) V’s Sleek Brow Kit (€10.49)
This is the biggest dupe of all! I couldn’t recommend the Sleek Brow Kit more, both eyebrow kits are very similar in colour, product consistency, the tools that come included in the kit and size and packaging of the product.
Both products give very similar results-in fact Sleek might even be better.
10. Mac Penultimate Eye liner (€21.00) V’s L’Oreal Super Liner ( €10.99 AVG)
Super Liner is miles better!! It’s easy to apply, this eye liner has a smooth texture and is ideal for daily use.
Hope this make you think before you spend girls- give them a try!
Have a great weekend,
MAIRÉAD
